Performance upgrades can change the classification of a golf cart, which can change the Florida laws that apply to you. In general, a golf cart must have a top speed of 20 mph or less. If it exceeds 20 mph, it becomes classified as a low-speed vehicle (LSV) and must be registered and tagged like a car.
